Advertisement of a Vacancy in the Political and Press Section
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Jakarta is seeking an employee in the political and press section with expected effect of 01 November 2025 (full-time position, one-year contract with the option of extension)
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Political Section:
- Monitoring and reporting on political developments (e.g. legislative changes, electoral processes, policy trends) and human rights and security issues in Indonesia and ASEAN
- Conducting research and preparing concise political analysis to inform reporting and provide context for German-Indonesian relations
- Maintaining contacts and building relevant networks with Indonesian government stakeholders, parliament, political parties, think tanks, and civil society
- Supporting the planning and organisation of high-profile events, official appointments and travel programmes, including media support, logistical preparations, and accompaniment
- Representing the Political Section at events and other engagements
Press Section:
- Analysing media reporting and public opinion and assessment of its impact on bilateral relations, including preparing thorough press overviews
- Managing strategic social media communication, including by developing an editorial plan and monitoring social media trends, metrics, and analytics
- Maintaining and overseeing media relations with journalists and media outlets
- Preparing and implementing media appointments, press conferences, interviews, background discussions and other public diplomacy activities, as well as circulating press releases
- Coordinating with external vendors as well as German education and cultural institutions
- Providing support for delegations and visiting groups, including accompanying them during their programmes in Indonesia
Requirements for the position are:
- Very good command of English and/or German language (ideally both), with at least one language at C1 level
- University degree, preferably in the field of international relations/political science/public relations and communication
- Several years of relevant professional experience in the field of politics as well as press and public relations
- Sound knowledge of Indonesia and strong interest in domestic and international political developments, the Indonesian political system and policy making processes
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X) and ideally photo and video editing programs
- Willingness to work flexible hours, occasionally outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends)

- References and/or testimonials
- Copy of valid ID (KTP) or copy of work and stay permit for Indonesia
- Indonesian police certificate of good conduct
